The Alliance for Strategic Token Ring Advancement and Leadership – formed last year to promote Token Ring as a technology for large mission-critical applications – has announced a multi-vendor interoperability testing programme for switched Token Ring. The programme will take place at University of New Hampshire’s InterOperability Lab, and the alliance’s members say they have been working with the university to define the parameters and objectives of the programme. Testing is due to begin next month, and products to be tested include 4Mbps and 16Mbps adaptors, concentrators and switches. The alliance claims the programme will adhere to the Dedicated Token Ring specification under development by the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers. The standard is expected to be finalised by the IEEE 802.5 committee in November this year.
