The number of internet users in China is likely to reach 5.5 million by the middle of this year, 10 million in mid-2000 and 15 million a year later according to Hong Kong consultancy Big Brains. China had 3.4 million people on the internet at the end of last year, already giving it the world’s seventh biggest internet user base, said a company statement, even though the official figure was given recently as 2.1 million.
