It should soon be a lot easier to send print documents across the net, as long as you’re using an approved operating system. Microsoft Corp and Hewlett Packard Co have kept their promise to support Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) in Windows 98 Second Edition as well as Windows 2000 Professional and Server. A beta version of the MS/HP implementation of IPP will be bundled with the third beta release of Windows 2000. Final versions of the internet printing client, called Internet Printing Services, are available now for Windows 98 Second edition, Windows 98 and Windows 95. IPP has the potential to replace faxes, overnight mail and email attachments, since users can use it to send documents to any internet-connected printer. Obviously hoping that it will replace those rival media, Microsoft and HP have put their combined strength behind the protocol, working closely with the Printer Working Group (PWG) of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). á
