Internet Initiative Japan introduces new hybrid servers

With memory options from 2 to 8GB, and disk space range from 80 to 250GB

By CBR Staff Writer

Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ), a provider of internet-access and network services, has introduced a new hybrid server to the Point Red hosting service that provides servers in one of three configurations: shared, virtual private, and private.

The new hybrid server features include: self-managed service that reportedly allows the customer to manage their own server domain; a range of software applications which can be installed in addition to the web server; virtualisation technology Xen that could be used to develop a ‘stable’ server environment even within a virtual environment; and the Webmin control panel.

The memory options range from 2 to 8GB and disk space options range from 80 to 250GB. RAID-6 is used for the storage system and up to four fixed IP addresses can be assigned, the company said.

IIJ said that initial fees will be waived for customer’s signing up for the hybrid server or VPS (virtual private server) between July 7 and August 31, 2009, as part of its US-based subsidiary IIJ America’s promotional campaign.
