Could this be an admission of defeat? Microsoft Corp has licensed its Internet Explorer web browser to Novell Inc, which will distribute the software. The agreement covers the forthcoming NetWare 5, which more and more pundits have been voting the network operating system most likely to eat Microsoft’s oft- delayed and oversized NT 5 for breakfast. Internet Explorer will be available for all NetWare clients as part of a regularly updated CD. It’s too late to slip it into the first shipments of NetWare 5, expected in the next few weeks, but Novell promised that IE will end up in the box eventually. The Provo, Utah software company will continue to ship Netscape’s Communicator browser, giving customers more browser choice – and incidentally, less space on their hard drive.
