International VAN Ltd has been formed to offer value-added network services around the world, and looks to start business any day now: it will apply to the Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications for permission to begin service as a second class special carrier in September; investors in the venture include Intec, Japan’s largest independent software house; Japan Air Lines, Tokyo Power, and Bank of Tokyo, which have invested $1m all told; this is to rise to $6m, and Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Corp will also be invited to invest.
