The US and the UK are expected this week to bust the cosy monopolistic world of accounting rates between telephone companies, which keep international phone charges artificially high by announcing agreement to allow two-way international simple resale between the two countries, a move that is likely to see a vast amount of continental transatlantic traffic routed to the US via London: with international simple resale, companies will be able to lease international capacity in bulk from the likes of British Telecommunications Plc, AT&T Corp and Cable & Wireless Plc and resell it as international US or UK service at either end in competition with established transatlantic carriers.
