The Intergraph Software Solutions arm of Intergraph Corp believes it has come up with the first Network File System gateway for Windows NT. Intergraph, an expert at NFS development for Windows and NT, says the system, AccessNFS Gateway is a low-cost way of giving Windows-based users access to NFS resources. Customers only buy the number of licenses needed for the maximum number of users at any given time, if they need to add more, they can do so by updating the gateway software on the Windows NT server. Intergraph says the total cost of ownership is reduced by centralizing control and at the same time increasing security. AccessNFS gateway, built on the same core architecture as the company’s client product, DiskAccess, eliminates the need to install individual NFS client software and includes the redirector technology that Intergraph co-developed with Microsoft Corp for its original DiskAccess product. Ironically, the product puts PC-NFS more on a par with Microsoft’s preferred SMB Server Message Block technology, the basis of its Common Internet File Systems, which also works without the need for individually installed client software. AccessNFS supports any networking card certified for use on Windows NT, is shipping now, and costs $2,500 for a concurrent five user license.
