Intergraph Corp, Huntsville, Alabama is celebrating a $35m contract under which it becomes the sole supplier of graphics computer systems for the first phase of British Telecom’s effort to create digital maps of all the phone company’s outside plant in the UK: the underground plant records presently consist of 150,000 paper maps and 300,000 cable and duct diagrams; the contract includes four Intergraph DEC VAX-based Data Processing Systems and 110 Clipper-based engineering workstations; Telecom will use Intergraph’s Telephone Facility Interactive Design System package, which was designed for the job.
