INTEREX INTRODUCES MODEM PAIRING FOR SPEEDY NET ACCESS

By CBR Staff Writer

Wichita, Kansas-based Interex Inc, a cable and adapters company, has come up with modem pairing technology designed to boost the speed of internet access, that sounds very similar to the Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc and Ascend Communications Inc initiative launched last week (CI No 3,283). Web OverDrive enables Windows 95 users with a pair of modems to access the web at up to 112Kbps. Modems of any speed above 14.4Kbps, including mixed speeds, can be used, and there is seamless disconnect and reconnect when one of the lines is needed for voice or fax transmission. No special support from the internet service provider is required, says Interex, unlike rival products which use Multilink-PPP. Speeds are said to be comparable with ISDN. Price is $50.
