A US federal judge denied a request from the InterDigital Technology Corp unit of InterDigital Communications Corp, for a new trial in its patent dispute with Motorola Inc. In March 1995, a Federal jury found that Motorola cellular telephone products did not infringe on four of Interdigital’s patents for wireless telephone and that 24 claims in the patents presented for trial by Interdigital were invalid (CI No 2,635). Judge Longobardi upheld the jury’s ruling that Motorola did not infringe upon any of the patents owned by InterDigital, but said Motorola had failed to prove that three claims on one of the four patents at issue were invalid.
