The partnership with Interactive Investor, which floated on the LSE and Nasdaq in February 2000, will enable individuals with WAP-enabled mobile telephones to identify, compare, monitor and, where appropriate, buy and sell online a range of financial products and services using information from Interactive Investor’s website directly from their mobile telephone.

Customers will have constant access to a wide range of Interactive Investor’s personal financial services. These include equity transactions, mortgage applications and information on pensions.

BT has announced today that it will develop mass market global mobile Internet services and applications which will be offered to BT’s international joint ventures, serving a customer base of 48 million subscribers in more than 15 countries worldwide.

The partnership is a consequence of the rapidly growing mobile and Internet markets worldwide and capitalises on the combined strengths of BT Cellnet and Interactive Investor. The partnership gives Interactive Investor the opportunity to offer access on new platforms and thereby attract new registered account holders and promote customer loyalty.

Commenting on the partnership, Tomás Carruthers, Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Investor, said:

Interactive Investor’s primary objective is to empower the investor community to take control of their personal finances at any time, through any device. The wireless Internet helps us to help the investor to do just that, by providing mobile access to our services.

We are delighted to be working with BT Cellnet and look forward to working closely with them in the future to develop new services that provide even better value to our users.
