With its gaze firmly on the midrange enterprise resource planning market, Intentia International has launched what it claims is the world’s first pure Java ERP package – Movex 11. The Stockholm, Sweden-based company says the Java version of its flagship product will run on any Java virtual machine (JVM) at a substantially lower price than rival mid-range ERP offerings. The company will also continue to support AS/400, traditionally its core market and has launched a separate version of the package for the IBM Corp system as well as optimizing the Java version for the AS/400’s 64-bit JVM. Intentia claims that Movex 11 offers broad functionality as wide as comparable mid-range offerings from competitors such as SAP, Baan and JD Edwards. It says that the advantage of the Movex system for second tier customers is that the software can be configured for particular tasks. Both versions of Movex Version 11 will have the same user interface and will offer a new graphical output management authoring tool. The software also boasts Win 32 compliancy and a Webtop Dynamic HTML interface. Intentia could not put a price on an average system, claiming that there were too many variables to consider but did say that typical implementation time of a system was six to nine months. The firm has 4,000 implemented sites – 80% in Europe, the other portion split between the US and Asia. Movex 11 is being demonstrated by Intentia – in partnership with IBM Corp – and the software will ship in three months.
