It seems that Intel will be launching its cut-down version of the 80486 today and that tomorrow will see IBM unveil a new PS/2 family using the chip: the new part will be a 32-bit processor with 8K-bytes of on-board cache and computers using the part will probably retail for $3,000 to $4,000 (CI No 1,560); the new chip will probably cut Advanced Micro Devices 80386 market out from under its feet and will enable IBM to cut prices throughout its personal computer ranges, helping it to rectify its reported 15% drop in market share for the first quarter of this year; AST will also launch a PC with the chip tomorrow.
