INTEL “TO INVEST ANOTHER $1,200m IN IRISH PLANT”

By CBR Staff Writer

Ireland hit the jackpot when it won Intel Corp’s first semiconductor plant outside the US, and according to minister for enterprise and employment Richard Bruton the company will be investing another $1,200m there; it could create 2,000 more jobs, he told Radio-Telefis Eireann, adding that a formal announcement was likely in a few days. Intel’s base is in Leixlip, west of Dublin and this will be the biggest single investment in Eire. The existing plant employs 4,000 making microprocessors and stuffing boards as part of the OEM boards and systems business. The new plant is to manufacture the Pentium Pro for Europe.
