The EC will decide whether or not to charge Intel for its alleged monopolistic tactics is likely by year’s end, said the report. Citing unnamed sources close to the issue, the paper also said the EC was preparing to defend its charges against Intel.

While the EC has investigated Intel for the past five years, a lawsuit last year by chief rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc has upped the ante. Intel chairman Craig Barrett said earlier this year that he was confident Intel’s business practices were legal and that the company would not be found of any wrongdoing.
