Intel Corp is planning to cut prices on its mobile processor lines this week to clear the decks for new chips coming later this year. The company is cutting prices by up to 43% on its mobile Pentium II and Celeron chips.
According to Intel spokesperson, Seth Walker, the move is in preparation for the introduction of new mobile processors later this year. The company will introduce the first mobile Pentium III parts built on the 0.18 micron process and the next revision of its Celeron line. Although it is not clear if the Celeron components will be built on the smaller design rule. Walker also confirmed that the first mobile processors using the Geyserville energy-saving technology would be introduced in the first quarter of next year.
