Intel Corp, Santa Clara has added six software developers and a bank to its roster of software applications being developed for Intel’s CablePort technology. CablePort is designed to brings high speed multimedia interactive services to personal computers in the home via cable. Intuit Inc, Netscape Communications Corp, Team Software Inc and Wells Fargo Bank have signed to convert applications to the CablePort. To meet the needs of the home educational market, Computer Curriculum Corp and Ingenius Inc have also signed agreements to convert their applications to the CablePort. Intel also announced conversion and development agreements with eShop Inc to use its interactive shopping system to demonstrate Tower Records’ first broadband home, music and video store at the Western Cable Show and future Intel CablePort technology trials. Once the applications are converted, the firms plan to participate in trials using CablePort. America Online Inc and Prodigy Services Co are already working with Intel to provide multimedia applications to the home computer via cable. They are currently participating in trials with Intel and Comcast Cable and Viacom Cable. The cable computer networking technology and support employed in these trials is being provided by Hybrid Networks Inc, which is also providing Internet access. Companies that signed agreements with Intel last May include Redgate Communications Inc. Intel has signed market trial agreements with Reality Online Inc and News Electronic Data Inc. Intel also signed memoranda of understanding earlier this year with Rogers Cablesystems Ltd and Tele-Communications Inc to bring interactive on-line services to the home computer.
