One thing we have learned, Barrett added, is there is a new power in the communications industry – that is the information superhighway, the so-called Internet; the Internet is a very effective communications vehicle among the technical community in the US – you combine the Internet with the popular press and you get instantaneous exposure, Barrett said, adding that as well as working with software companies to devise patches that can block the division sums from being done on the floating point unit, it is also looking at software to check floating point divisions by redoing them; Barrett said Intel’s new Pentium design is now producing good parts but had to admit that flawed chips are still coming off the assembly line since they are at the tail end of the three-month manufacturing process.
