Intel Corp has now published what those that really need to know know already: the prices for Pentium chips that are expected to hold right through to next February and come into force on August 1 (CI No 2,955). The Pentium Pros have also been cut, but we can expect another cut on those in November. The 200MHz Pentium falls 15% to $509 in 1,000-up lots; the 166MHz one falls 19.3% to $402; the 150MHz 40% to $278; the 133MHz 20.6% to $204; the 120MHz 28.7% to $134 and the 100MHz 20.9% to $106, all for 1,000-up of 3.3V parts. The 200MHz Pentium Pro with 512Kb cache falls by 11.9% to $1,072; the 166MHz with the 512Kb cache 17.9% to $664. With 256Kb cache, the 200MHz falls 20.5% to $562, the 180MHz 19.7% to $482, but the 150MHz is unchanged at $534. The company warns that prices and pricing policy are subject to change. And feast your eyes – the list is only being published because of the change to three times a year cuts rather than four; it says it does not intend to publish prices in future earnings reports.
