Intel Corp, Santa Clara, California has a new multiprocessor specification that will enable Pentium-based multiprocessor systems to run standard Santa Cruz Operation Inc MPX, SunSoft Inc’s Solaris, IBM Corp’s OS/2 for Symmetric Multiprocessing, UnixWare and Windows NT – plus existing applications. It says systems, operating systems and BIOS based on the multiprocessing specification should be ready in the second half of this year. And Intel has been showing a motherboard for the P6 Sextium minus actual P6 silicon – with 256Mb RAM, five Peripheral Component Interconnect and two AT slots.
