The Santa Clara-based company says it will expand its presence in 60 Indian cities by the end of this year.

Intel currently operates in India through an extensive network of dealers and resellers spanning across 120 townships and cities.

The plans come after Intel’s South Asian operations returned a hat-rick of healthy consecutive quarters.

According to Intel sources, most of the expansion will focus on strengthening its footprint in the southern Indian states, where the company sees an untapped growth potential among small business that presently account for around 45% of PC sales in the region.

Intel also points out that laptop sales increased 100% last quarter in India.

Likely vertical targets will initially be textile and automobile industries, e-government initiatives, and local education departments.

Intel is also starting to work with local telecommunications providers to ramp up the development of broadband networks in India.
