If you want your technology to be widely adopted, giving it away to educational institutions seems to be the key, and Intel Corp has followed Oracle Corp and Microsoft Corp in donating IT kit to US universities. Intel’s Education 2000 is a three-year program to donate $85m worth of gear, following Oracle and Microsoft’s $100m and $200m respectively (CI No 3,190). Looks like the IT industry aspires to the mantle of Carnegie et al, the new philanthropists of the 21st century.
