Intel Corp has licensed a FS450 TV video conversion chip from Focus Enhancements Inc for use in its 810 chipset and other chip designs. The Wilmington, Massachusetts-based company’s design will encodes and decodes TV broadcasts and digital video and improves picture quality on PC monitors. The deal shows the path that Intel is taking with the 810 chipset, which it sees being used in internet appliances, set-top boxes and web terminals. We expect that technology from the FS450 might find its way into Intel’s Timna chip, which is Intel’s rival to National Semiconductor Inc’s Geode PC-on-a-chip. The Timna is expected to be launched in the second half of next year.
