INTEL FILES PATENT INFRINGEMENT COUNTERSUIT AGAINST DEC

By CBR Staff Writer

Intel Corp has finally gone ahead and filed its anticipated counter claim against Digital Equipment Corp, alleging DEC’s infringement of 14 Intel patents. The patents in question cover technology dealing with microprocessor architecture and design, semiconductor manufacturing, video encoding and decoding, portable systems thermal management, system architecture and design and system service and management. The counter claim comes in response to DEC’s original suit against Intel, filed in May (CI No 3,160), which alleged infringement of 10 DEC patents. Intel’s latest action is independent of its prior breach of contract suit against DEC which demanded the return of documents concerning new chip technology (CI No 3,170).
