Intel Corp’s figures arrived only after we had closed the business page yesterday and just before news came through that we seem to be at war with Iraq again, and they show forth quarter net soaring 128% to $428m on sales up 54% at $1,857m, taking the total for the year to $1,066m net, up 30%, on sales just shy of the six billion dollar mark, up 22% at $5,844m; the company said its business was in excellent shape as the new year begins, with strong demand across most product lines, and that it exceeded its ambitious goal of shipping 4m to 5m units of 80486 and 80386 processors in the fourth quarter; other businesses, including standard semiconductors, system level and networking products were all generally strong.
