Intel backs Mirics in $10m funding round

Mirics Semiconductor, which has developed a radio-frequency chip technology that enables mobile devices and PCs to receive content based on any number of technical standards, has raised $10m in a round of funding led by Intel Capital, the global investment arm of Intel.

In addition to the finance, Intel Capital said it would also provide Mirics with management and technical input. Marcos Battisti, EMEA Mobile Sector director for Intel Capital, said: Early feedback on Mirics’ work is very positive and we believe this provides a very exciting addition to our portfolio of mobile sector investments.

Fleet, UK-based Mirics said OEMs trialed its chips a year ago and the first commercial deals are expected to be announced by the end of this year.
