Intel Corp yesterday unveiled its 200MHz Pentium at $599 for 1,000-up and manufacturers rushed to announce machines using it – but according to US PC Week, yields are disappointing, and the parts are in very limited supply – and what parts there are will be directed to the consumer market until August or September. We’re getting reports [from Intel] of reduced quantities almost every week: there are problems with yields, said an official with a top 10 user of the chips. Pre-announcers include Apricot Computers Ltd, Viglen Ltd, Gateway 2000 Inc, Dell Computer Corp, Advanced Logic Research Inc and Hewlett-Packard Co.
