Intel Corp, Santa Clara and Novell Inc, Provo, Utah have announced a unified end-to-end system for desktop, data and network management. Specifically, Intel’s desktop-management software, LANDesk Manager and LANDesk Virus Protect, and its data-management system, StorageExpress, are now to be integrated with Novell’s NetWare Management System management console. The integrated Novell and Intel products will use NetWare as the operating environment for distributing management services throughout the enterprise. It is claimed that the development will enable network administrators to have a consolidated view of the network, including desktop machines, servers, routers, virus prevention facilities, network traffic and other devices and services from the Novell NetWare Management System 2.0 console; administrators will be able to initiate Intel desktop management and back-up functions directly from the NetWare Management System console map, say the companies. Intel also says that StorageExpress functions can be initiated proactively upon NetWare Management System receiving alerts from failing devices. The integratable products making up this combination will be available by the end of March. LANDesk Manager 1.51 will ship for $1,500, LANDesk Virus Protect 2.1 for $1,000, and StorageExpress 1.21 for $5,000 to $12,500.
