Intel Corp and venture capitalists Apax Partners have invested 12m euros ($12.2m) in German Linux distributor and service provider SuSE Linux AG.

The Nuremberg-based Company, which this year expects 120% revenue growth to 22m euros ($22.4m), reckons to be the market leader in Germany ahead of RedHat Software Inc, as well as a leading player Europe-wide. A spokesperson for the company said the investment by Intel and Apax will enable it to accelerate its growth, particularly in the international market.

An Intel spokesperson, meanwhile, said the company’s interest is in maximising the usage and availability of Linux on its processors. The spokesperson noted that Intel hads already made similar investments in RedHat, VA Linux Systems and TurboLinux Inc. This is, however, Intel’s first Linux-related investment in Europe.
