Intel is collaborating with Total Immersion, a company specialising in augmented reality (AR), to bring AR features like gesture recognition into Intel’s chipset, as per a report.
Total Immersion marketing chief Antoine Brachet was quoted by Reuters as saying that they were working together with Intel on their chipset where you can have some AR features, like gesture recognition that can be transferred from software to hardware.
Total Immersion, which has been in the augmented reality business for some time now, was commisioned by Intel to build its technology into chips of Intel.
Earlier in March, Intel took a stake in Total Immersion after the chipmaker’s investment arm led the $5.5m funding round for the AR company.
Brachet added, " Moving the feature into hardware will make it faster to use for consumers and could boost takeup of the new technology among consumers as it would be in all devices, without the need for additional downloads."
