Intel changes financial reporting structure

The structure will be unveiled on April 15 when the company reports Q1 earnings.

By CBR Staff Writer

Chipmaker Intel has changed its financial reporting structure to better reflect its focus on two areas: mobile and the growing field of the Internet of Things (IoT).

The structure will be unveiled on April 15 and will provide revenues from its recently created IoT group.

Revenues from its new Mobile and Communications unit, which includes chips sold for smartphones and tablets, will also be provided, as well as gateway and set-top boxes as part of the PC Client Group.

Intel’s reporting segments will also include the data centre group, which reflect sales of chips for use in networking and storage products as well as servers and software and services, which includes the chip maker’s security unit McAfee.

The new structure is expected to be most notable for the Internet of things unit as well as mobile processors.
