Intel has unveiled the new Ivy Bridge-E processors for LGA 2011 platforms, including Core i7-4960X, Core i7-4930K and Core i7-4820K, ahead of their official debut at the upcoming Intel’s Developer Forum to be held during 10-12 September in San Francisco.
The new six-core, HyperThreaded i7-4960X processor incorporates Turbo Boost technology and about 15MB of L3 cache, in addition to 40 lanes of PCIe Gen 3 and new 1866 MHz DDR3 memory support, which would offer improved performance and power.
According to the US chipmaker, the new processor, which also incorporates high-performance systems from partners including iBUYPOWER and Cyberpower, is targeted at hardcore gamers, 3D artists, video geeks and anybody who use expect higher performance from their PCs.
Intel’s PC Client Group VP, Desktop Client Platforms GM, Lisa Graff, said: "With twelve processing threads and four memory channels on our latest 22nm manufacturing process, this processor delivers exceptional performance for desktop PC power users."
The new chip is also claimed to be 36% faster with 3D games when compared to the latest Haswell-based Core i7-4770K introduced in June 2013.
Intel’s new Core i7-4960X incorporates same number of cores and threads as of 4960X, while has a base clock speed of 3.4GHz and a turbo clock of about 3.9GHz.
The Core i7 4820K is a quad-core processor and comes with 4-cores and 8-threads, with a base clock of 3.7GHz.
