Intel has decided to not to make Skylake-C processors for undisclosed reasons.
There will not be a Skylake-C processor for tablets, laptops, handhelds or desktops, most of which have already been announced.
The Tech Report tested the processor with the company’s other processors. It found that Broadwell-C, which is based on a two-year-old CPU design, was the better option when compared to Skylake processor.
A source familiar with Intel’s plans told the news agency that the company seeks to revive the socketed desktop parts with eDRAM as part of 14nm Kaby Lake refresh in 2016.
The source suggested that one potential reason could be the schedule as to why Intel did not prefer to manufacture a socketed Skylake with eDRAM.
Earlier this month, the company launched its 6th generation Intel Core processor family based on Skylake microarchitecture.
The chip was developed using Intel’s 14nm manufacturing process technology. The processor has been designed to work on the lowest power levels ever and supports a range of device designs including ultra-mobile compute stick and new mobile workstations.
