INTEGRATED DEVICE TECH ANNOUNCES 386 CACHE

Integrated Device Technology, Santa Clara, duly announced its accelerator Intel Corp’s 82385 cache controller for 80386 systems (CI No 999), which turned out to be a a 4K by 16 static RAM optimised for the 82385: the IDT 71586, features a 35nS access time with on-chip address latch, and as all 80386 CPUs running at 25MHz and above are expected to need caches to perform to their capabilities, there could be healthy demand for the part, and a 32Kb cache for the 80386 can now be done with five chips against 27 previously; volume is set for the fourth quarter at $34.50 for 35nS, $29.50 for 45nS in 40-pin plastic DIP in 100-up quantities.
