The largest contract went to KPN, which will provide all of Achmea’s communications services, covering landlines, mobile devices, and data networks, under an agreement worth approximately 150m euros ($221m). Atos Origin will provide data center services under a deal worth 145m euros ($214m).
Getronics, which was acquired by KPN earlier this year, will manage Achmea’s desktop infrastructure for the insurer’s Dutch operations. This part of the project, which covers some 20,000 employees, is valued at about 120m euros ($177m).
Achmea is part of the Eureko financial services group, which has operations in 12 European countries and annual revenue of 14.3bn ($21.1bn). Achmea’s only previous outsourcing deal was signed in 2004 when the company handed over its pension administration system to EDS in a 10-year deal.
The European insurance market has seen a significant amount of activity in recent months. Last week, Capita bagged a deal worth $1.5bn with Prudential UK, while T-Systems struck a deal worth around $190m with Royal & Sun Alliance last month, and October saw IBM Global Services extend its infrastructure management deal with AXA Group for a further four years.
