INS Engineering has developed and begun marketing a steel-frame design CAD/CAM system cosily called FRED: INS is a joint venture company established last year by NTT and Mitsui Shipbuilding and its automatic design unit, and the system is intended for the design of both small and large structures, as well as materials requirements; the price per input terminal is some $280,000, approximately one third less than previous comparable systems.
