Development tools outfit Inprise Corp has acquired Apogee Information Systems Inc, a privately-held systems integration and consulting firm based in Marlboro, Massachusetts. Financial terms of the all-cash deal were not disclosed. Apogee, with 22 employees, becomes part of Inprise’s professional services business and is expected to bolster the fledgling unit, which numbered about 100 before the acquisition. The move comes as part of the overall direction Inprise took when it changed its name from Borland International Inc earlier this year, signaling its migration from the realm of desktop development tools into the greener pastures of enterprise-level computing – with services integral to the strategy. Apogee’s customers include Dun & Bradstreet, Sheraton Hotels, Bay Networks, and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
