Inmos Ltd has announced production shipment of the 30MHz 32-bit T805 Transputer, which delivers 30 MIPS and 4.3 MFLOPS peak, 50% more performance than the 20MHz version: the CMOS T805 is suited to embedded applications such as image processing, optical character recognition and industrial control and imaging; the faster version, which has a 64-bit floating point unit and 4Kb on-chip memory, has an interrupt response time of 630nS, average power consumption of 660mW, a 4Gb multiplexed programmable external memory bus incorporating dynamic RAM control, and a pin count of 84; an external 5MHz clock is all that’s needed to drive the on-chip phase locked loop; the four Inmos communications links each runs at 20Mbps.
