Inmos International Ltd on Friday gave a few details of the technological breakthrough alluded to in its announcement last week (CI No 830). The Thorn EMI chipmaker says that it has developed advanced isolation contact and interconnect technology at its Newport, South Wales plant for its next generation of static RAMs that will obviate the need for it to replace its process equipment, leading to a big capital saving. Inmos says the process will enable it to make parts with up to four times the complexity of the current T800 Transputer on its existing lines.
