Search and cache software provider Inktomi Corp has launched its European search operation with the announcement of four deals with European online service providers. Inktomi’s European search cluster is hosted and resold by British Telecommunications Plc in the UK, and it is therefore little surprise that BT-part-owned ISP LineOne is one of the first customers of the 50 million document search engine. Also signing up are portal ukmax.com, run by Hollinger Digital Ltd, Spanish portal Ole! run by incumbent telco Telefonica SA, and Dagens Nyheter, a Swedish newspaper which runs a news site at dn.se. Inktomi will integrate its system across its partners services over the next few weeks.
