India’s second largest IT services vendor declined to comment when contacted by Computer Business Review, but BG Srinivas, the company’s head of the EME region, told us last week that the company was considering acquisitions as way to ramp up its operations in the region.

Infosys has been one of the most conservative of the major Indian IT services vendors in terms of M&A activity. Its biggest move to date came when it swooped for Australian services vendor Expert Information Services for $24m in December 2003, although there has been widespread speculation in recent weeks that it was planning a bid for French services giant Capgemini.

Philips’ F&A unit employs approximately 1,500 employees across India, Poland, and Thailand, including 500 at a center in Chennai. The deal would be a major boost to Infosys’ business process outsourcing operation which contributed sales of $146m to Infosys’ full-year 2006/2007 total of $3.1bn.
