Infospace.com, the Redmond, Washington-based provider of maps, directories and stock quotes to internet content sites and portals, made its initial public offering late in the morning of Tuesday December 15. Five million shares in Infospace went on sale for $15 per share. While the shares went up 67% on the first day of trading to settle by close of trade on Thursday at $33.8125, the company’s debut was not a spectacular one compared to record-breakers like that of Theglobe.com Inc (CI No 3,539). Still, shares in Theglobe are now on $33, compared to a high of $97. Infospace made headlines earlier this year when it won the White Pages contract with America Online, after Banyan Systems Inc subsidiary Switchboard decided not to renew its deal with AOL (CI No 3,557).
