In a series of Linux-related announcements, Informix Corp teamed up with Hewlett-Packard Co yesterday to announce the availability of the Linux edition of its Dynamic Server database through HP’s Covision Internet solutions program – the company’s unit set up to deliver internet solutions and services for the Linux platform. The suite consists of Informix Dynamic Server, Linux Edition; Informix Client SDK (Software Development Kit); and Informix Connect, which includes integration guidelines for the Apache Web server and connectivity features such as JDBC and ODBC. In other news, Informix also announced a distribution alliance with systems integrator and value added distributor Jones Business Systems (JBS), make the database vendor’s line of Linux software available through JBS’s reseller channels. JBS will offer Informix’s Linux products as software only, or bundled with their white box – servers to create a complete Linux hardware and software solution. Janet Smith, director, product marketing and management at Informix said the deal would enable Informix to expand its reach in the growing commercial Linux market. She added the partnership would be the first of many. Informix also said it was making its 4GL and SQL application development tools for Linux available free between March 1 and June 30, 1999 through JBS. The goal, the company said, is to expand the number of applications offered to the Linux community.
