Database software provider Informix Corp posted it sixth consecutive quarter of operating profit, with first-quarter earnings of $7.5m, or $0.04 per share, in line with Wall Street estimates. Revenue for the quarter rose 22.1% year-over-year to $196.6m as license sales grew 17.4% to $97.9m and services rose 27.2% to $98.7m.

In the year-ago quarter, the Menlo Park, California-based company reported net income of $1.8m, or $0.01 per share, before the issuance of warrants. That quarter also included restructuring charges of $3.3m, while the latest quarter was impacted by $578,000 in restructuring costs.

Informix said revenue growth was spread across its geographies, with sales in North America up 24% at $97.9m and Latin America bringing in $14.2m, a 27% increase from the first quarter of 1998. The Europe, Middle East and Africa region saw 16% growth at $60.6m and Asia/Pacific increased 28% to $23.9m. รก
