Database software vendor Informix Corp yesterday announced that it has appointed an executive from rival Oracle Corp as the company’s new VP of sales in North America. Philip Rugani joins Informix from Oracle, where he was group VP of the database giant’s general business and alliances organization for the Americas. Informix said that with his knowledge of direct and indirect sales channels, Rugani will play an important role in the company’s ongoing efforts to further increase top-line revenue growth.

Rugani will report to Jean-Yves Dexmier, executive VP of field operations. At Oracle, Rugani is credited with creating the first unit to focus on the mid-range market. Prior to that, he held numerous positions in direct and indirect sales, marketing, and operations at Bay Networks, Digital Equipment and Motorola. The move is the latest in a series of management reshuffles at Informix aimed at getting the company back on its feet and boosting revenues following a string of unprofitable quarters.

In January, the Menlo Park, California-based Informix hired Howard Bain, former CFO at software developer Symantec, as its new executive VP of finance and CFO. And the then CFO, Jean Yves Dexmier, the executive widely credited with returning Informix to profitability, was moved to VP of field operations.
