Informatica Corp yesterday took the wraps off a webcentric extension of its PowerCenter data extraction and transformation hub, adding an e to highlight the newly implemented support for web protocols and standards. PowerCenter.e is intended to aid the analysis of transactional data received over the web alongside data from legacy systems, ERP software and other databases.

The Palo Alto, California-based company has added support for MQSeries, IBM Corp’s messaging product, in order to create a near real-time process. The software will also enable the import of XML (Extensible Markup Language) data and metadata into a data warehouse’s relational database and repository. The logging formats from Microsoft, Netscape and Apache web servers will also be supported, with tools to allow support for proprietary logs in the pipeline. Finally, developers will be able to embed their PERL scripts into the transformation engine.

The product is in beta with a number of dot coms, including Beyond.com, Priceline.com and Sportsline.com, and is due for release mid-February. The price will be set at $100,000, or $50,000 for an upgrade for existing PowerCenter users.
