Web cache server provider InfoLibria Inc this week launched the first of its low-end caching systems aimed at users with less demanding caching needs, at a starting price of $9,999. The DynaCache Series 20 boxes will be marketed to small internet service providers with little traffic, larger ISPs that operate some low-demand points of presence, as well as large enterprises that need on-site caching capabilities.
It is essentially a cut-down version of the DynaCache 200, which typically sells for around $40,000, and won a benchmarking test against the likes of Novell Inc, IBM Corp and Network Appliance Inc in March. InfoLibria says the 200 can scale up to OC-48 speeds (2.488 Gbps) whereas the 20 series is optimized for up to 10Mbps. Further standards of server will be made available, including a 100 series to sit between the existing two machines, and a souped-up 200, to create an upgrade path for InfoLibria’s customers. The two-year-old firm has collected 25 US and 10 UK clients since its products became available earlier this year.
