The Group of Seven industrial nations is expected to set out on a joint project to network member state’s respective library and education resources next year. Details of the project, due out at the group’s high-level meeting on information and communications in Brussels this coming February, will be worked out at a working-level meeting to be held this month. The joint information and telecommunications project aims to define a framework for co-operation on a scheme to enable all library data and documents to be browsed via on-line communications. The educational aspect of the project, which will call for a link-up of computers and other multimedia equipment at schools, is being emphasised, with one aim being to promote student exchanges among the group’s nations. The Brussels meeting in February is also expected to seek greater co-operation between the Big Seven nations in bringing multimedia and other information industries on a fast growth track.
