Indra ISS – formerly Eritel SA – the software and services unit of electronics giant Indra SA, has announced it is to shed 124 workers, 7% of its current staff of 1,725. Managing director Regino Moranchel said despite the resistance of unionized workers, it had no other option than to face up to a competitiveness plan that sought to adapt the unit’s structure to the demands of the market. Moranchel pointed to pockets of unproductiveness at Indra ISS that would be the focus of the cuts. The jobs to go are at intermediate levels its structure and will also affect some high-grade engineers who have been on an exaggeratedly high salary. Moranchel told Computerworld Espana that Indra ISS’s order book was buoyant, but confirmed the need to seek new markets outside Spain. The subsidiary has targeted growth of 4% to 5% over last year’s revenue of $164m for the current year.
